Robert graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1958. He practiced accounting in San Antonio with Rogers, Chorpening and Jungman CPAs until 1963 specializing in governmental and banking audits. Robert moved to Uvalde in 1963 and joined the accounting firm of William R. Meridith, CPA, which has evolved into the current firm of Coleman, Horton and Company, LLP. Robert has 61 years of experience in public accounting specializing in estate and gift taxation and was one of the founding partners of the firm as it exists today.

Robert has been a principal in the Uvalde County Title Company and the Frio Mountain Park Estates, Inc. Subdivision. Additionally, he purchased Agro Equipment in 1978 and has successfully grown the business and acted as an ally with the community farmers and ranchers for 41 years by consistently providing them with the farming and ranching resources they need to ensure their own success.

Robert is an active member of the Rotary Club and the First United Methodist Church of Uvalde where he has served on the Administrative Board. Other local contributions have included serving as a director for the Uvalde National Bank, treasurer for the Uvalde Country Club, president of the Uvalde Youth Rodeo Club, president of the Chamber of Commerce and president of the Uvalde County Child Welfare Board. Professional society experiences include serving on the Public Relations Committee of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants who was instrumental in the process of nominating directors to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. Robert was one of only six CPAs to pass the CPA exam in Bexar County in 1960. He was subsequently recognized in 2011 as a currently practicing CPA who has been practicing public accounting for 52 years in the state of Texas. He was one among 13 currently practicing in the state with the same length of experience who were recognized by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. When you cannot find Robert working hard on one of his client's projects, you will find him playing in the dirt on his ranch, a tradition continued for several generations. He also takes great pride in and enjoys participating in conservation practices for the benefit of the livestock and wildlife on the ranch. You can also find him educating his grandchildren and great-grandchildren about all of the stars and constellations, family genealogy and various history subjects.
